Things to Know Before Your Salisbury Move

Apply for bay suspensions 14 days ahead or you'll be carrying from a car park

Wiltshire Council needs two full weeks' notice to reserve or suspend a space outside your home. Leave it late and there's nowhere legal to stop, forcing you to carry from the nearest pay-and-display. Our removal companies apply these regularly and know that printed proof avoids arguments when parking attendants patrol, so apply when you exchange contracts and keep the approval to hand for the day.

Finish by 10am or start after 4pm if you're on High Street

If your home sits above a shop on High Street, Butcher Row or Fish Row, you can't stop outside from 10am to 4pm. Arrive early and finish by 9:45am, or book an evening slot once barriers reopen. If that's not possible, meet on Milford Street or Blue Boar Row and walk items through the lanes. It adds a few minutes but avoids tickets.

Avoid Tuesdays and Saturdays if you need space near the Guildhall

Market Place fills with stalls every Tuesday and Saturday morning, with bays suspended and diversions in place from early setup. Moves near Blue Boar Row, Queen Street or the Guildhall are easiest on non-market days, or after 3pm once stalls clear. Our movers regularly use Milford Street for handovers when the market's in session because it's the simplest legal stop that doesn't get blocked off.

Old George Mall closes at 8pm and caps at 2 metres

Old George Mall shuts around 8pm and caps vehicles at 2 metres. Culver Street runs 24 hours with slightly more clearance and is safer for late finishes. For tall vans, use surface sites instead. Our movers use Culver Street for long jobs and avoid Old George after 6pm to prevent getting locked in.

Book before 9am or after 4pm to avoid A36 and school-run delays

The A36 and Harnham gyratory back up during morning rush and school runs. Roadworks for the River Park scheme and signal changes at Churchill Way add delays. Based on our experience, slots before 9am have the least traffic, and afternoon moves should avoid 3pm to 4pm completely. Drop a pin to your exact entrance and tell your movers which side street to use so they don't loop the one-way system.

Check racecourse fixtures if you're moving west or south

Salisbury Racecourse fixtures and concerts south of town clog Netherhampton Road and the A3094. Traffic builds mid-morning and again at dusk. If you're moving west or south, check the fixture list and either book morning arrivals or choose non-raceday dates to avoid gridlock.
